In an effort to educate our customers, here are some realistic expectations based on our experience over the years. We do our best to serve our customers at a high level and we specialize in cabinet refinishing so here are some things you can expect on our end. Please keep in mind that our process is a refinish and not a restoration. There are limitations to a coatings performance.

At Faux Get Me Not,llc we refinish cabinets using a water base industrial coating designed specifically for cabinets. This is a durable coating and will last a long time if taken care of. It is not an indestructible coating and it can chip, scratch or stain, just as manufactured cabinets would if heavily abused. Areas within heavy water usage areas can sometimes show early wear. The area near the dishwasher and sink can be susceptible.

The majority of doors we refinish are five-panel doors created for movement. We do not caulk doors because even though it looks great at first, over time it will result in failure. Instead, we do our best to create clean lines where the middle panel meets the stiles and rails. Sometimes, especially with deep grained cabinets, small amounts of bridge may occur do to surface tension. Because wood contracts in the winter time, you may notice a slight line where the panel meets the stiles and rails. You can help to prevent the expansion and contracting of these doors by regulating the temperature and humidity in your home. This expansion and contraction also applies to the boxes, framing and molding. Small crack may appear if humidity fluctuates to extremes.

Open grain doors and doors with knots and other natural wood imperfections require more work. We will do several coats of primer and of pigmented polyurethane on the front of these doors which will provide a beautiful finish, but there will still be some grain showing. There is a quality in change of the cabinets, but at no point is the a full restoration. If you’re looking for a completely smooth manufactured look, we would suggest looking at replacing the doors with a closed grain substrate.

We use low-tack painters tape and paper to protect your floors. Low-tack painters tape should not cause any issues and does a nice job to protect the floors, walls and ceiling, however, any of these surface finishes that are damaged by low-tack painters tape is a sign of a failed finish and is the liability of the flooring or previous paint contractor and not Faux Get Me Not, llc.

There may be imperfections that are not noticeable when the cabinets are dark. However, when transitioning to a light color or a white, those imperfections can stand out. Some of these imperfections may include but are not limited to doors warping, large gaps where cabinets meet the walls or ceiling, cabinet boxes not being square and alignment issues due to improperly installed cabinets. On installation day, we do our best to make sure everything within our control is addressed, but want to make you aware that there are some things that are out of our control with regards to the actual structure of the cabinets or excessing hardware, hinges and drawer slides. New hinges may pose issues if they are not the exact size of the previous hinge. Areas between cabinets may be caulked, but may also be left alone do to spacing and allowing for expansion.

Although the of the doors, drawers, exterior of boxes frames are cleaned with heavy duty cleaners and all efforts are, sometimes, cabinets and boxes can have extreme levels of grease imbedded within the grain and may not be able to be cleaned completely. The cabinets above the stove are typical culprits for embedded grease which can sometime leech to the finish coat. If there is a future failure do to this, new doors should be ordered and refinished. This grease and dirt also may effect the adhesion of tape when masking. This can possibly result in a “blow out” when spraying. Meaning, there will possibly be overspray in the cabinets. Every effort is taken to remove this overspray but sometimes can result in removing or marring of paper veneer. With that, the expectation that the client remove items within the first three inches of the cabinet and clean the surfaces prior to prep day.

Specialty finishes are done by hand and are artistic enhancements designed to give the cabinets a unique, high- end look. Because these finishes are completed by hand, every door and drawer will not match perfectly but rather will have subtle variations making the end product flow without looking forced.

Keep in mind that all finishes are done by hand and may show slight texture, a small sag or drip. Due to the limitations when spraying pre-assembled cabinets frames on-site, you may feel a slight texture variations between outside and interior angled areas. In some cases, areas may not be able to be fixed. Bagging and buffing attempts will be made to help smooth the affected area. The process behind refinishing your cabinets, is to give them another life cycle, an updated appearance, a cost effective solution and save them from a landfill. If a factory finish is desired, the refinish process may not be the best solution for your particular situation.

Color matching is available, but keep in mind, the industrial coatings are not the same brand as the color swatches. The color lab does an exceptional job, but there may be a slight range of hue and tone.

We believe in letting our customers know the expectations up front based on our own experiences and the experience of the thousands of refinishers in our network so that there are no surprises.

Looking forward to transforming your cabinets!
